FC Utrecht will demand more than £3.5 million if Celtic come calling for Gyrano Kerk again this summer, according to RTV Utrecht.

If you had asked many an Eredivisie fanatic this time last year what they thought of Kerk, you’d have probably heard the same assessment on repeat. He is scarily quick, they would say, but is severely lacking in the end product department.

Though it’s fair to say that, during the 2019/20 campaign, Utrecht’s star man has transformed a weakness into a strength.

With 11 goals and 12 assists to his name in 30 games, Kerk has finally added a ruthless streak to his searing pace. Do not be surprised, then, if Celtic make a renewed attempt to lure the 24-year-old to Glasgow – especially if the Hoops cannot hold onto Odsonne Edouard for another season.

“Celtic were the club most interested,” Utrecht coach John Van den Brom told the Daily Record.

“I suspect the (global health situation) will put most transfers on hold just now, but I think the transfer window will be extended to September this year.

“And when that happens I think there will be a lot of interest in Gyrano again. We are expecting that.”

That does not mean, however, that Utrecht will just give away their star man on the cheap. Reports from the Netherlands suggest that a side who finished an impressive sixth this season want at least £3.5 million.

Then again, if Celtic do sell Edouard, they will not be short of cash. £3.5 million would look like pocket change if the talismanic Frenchman seals a big-money move to one of Europe’s biggest clubs.
