Scottish Premiership champions Celtic were reportedly keen to sign Kalas from Premier League giants Chelsea – but he’s returning to The Robins instead.

Celtic have missed out on Chelsea defender Tomas Kalas with Bristol City set to make the Czech Republic international their highest paid player to convince him to make a permanent move to Ashton Gate, as reported by the Bristol Post.
Kalas has been contracted to Premier League giants Chelsea for nine years now but, after making just four appearances for the London club, it seems that the time is right for the 26-year-old to move elsewhere.
And after a fine spell on loan at Bristol City, Kalas is set to sign for Lee Johnson’s side on a long-term basis.
The Bristol Post claims that Celtic manager Neil Lennon was hoping to lure the former Fulham and Middlesbrough loanee north of the border but he has been convinced to stay in Bristol instead with The Robins handing him a contract bigger than anyone else’s in Johnson’s current squad.
The Scottish Sun recently claimed that Kalas was valued at £5 million, a fee which would have made him one of the most expensive signings in Celtic’s history.

Instead, that honour looks set to be bestowed upon Christopher Jullien, the man-mountain Toulouse centre-back who is expected to become the club’s first signing of the summer.
But it remains to be seen whether Jullien will represent better value for money than Kalas.
