A report in the Daily Record has suggested that Celtic may be fielding offers from Premier League-bound Brighton and Hove Albion for midfielder Stuart Armstrong this summer.
Armstrong has enjoyed a brilliant season in the Scottish Premiership, proving to be a talisman-like figure for the Hoops as they went on to win the Scottish Premiership title and League Cup, while they also reached the Champions League group-stages and have a Scottish Cup final to also look forward to.
Unsurprisingly therefore, the 25-year-old is attracting attention from clubs south of the border, with the Record stating that Brighton – who will secure the Championship title by equalling Newcastle’s result on the final day of the campaign this weekend – are considering making a move.
The Record reports however, that Celtic fans probably do not need to be concerned about the midfielder’s future, even though he is about to enter the final year of his contract.
The Bhoys and the player himself are optimistic about agreeing an extension, the Record adds, and thus, they are expecting to be able to fend off interest in him.
Keeping Armstrong will undoubtedly provide a major boost to Celtic’s ambitions of trying to build on what has been a brilliant first season under Brendan Rodgers.
The Scotland international has scored 13 times, while also providing six assists in the top flight and has looked like the kind of leader in the middle of the park that will leave Hoops fans much more optimistic about their chances of being able to replace Scott Brown at some stage in the future.
