Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers worked with Michel Vorm during his time at Swansea City – and reportedly wants to bring him to Scotland from Spurs.

A new centre-back is Celtic’s priority during the January transfer window but could the Scottish champions aim to reinforce their backline with the arrival of another goalkeeper too?

The Scotsman claim this is possible with Hoops manager Brendan Rodgers considering a move for his former Swansea City goalkeeper Michel Vorm in the New Year.

The report states that Rodgers has not ruled out the possibility of reuniting with the Dutchman at Parkhead. The 34-year-old is currently plying his trade at Tottenham Hotspur but could be in danger of falling to third place in the pecking order behind Hugo Lloris and summer signing Paolo Gazzaniga.

As it stands, Vorm will be out of contract in the summer so Celtic may be hopeful of landing the former Utrecht goalkeeper on a cut-price deal.

And while he is 34 these days, just two months youngster than The Bhoys’ current number one Craig Gordon, Vorm still has a lot to offer. He is not only a fine shot-stopper but excellent with the ball at his feet – an attribute Rodgers demands of his goalkeepers and a major reason why he brought him to Swansea back in 2011.

There was a real mutual respect between Vorm and Rodgers during their time together at the Liberty Stadium.

‘I’ve worked with him for a year and he’s the best manager I’ve worked with – and I think he is the best manager maybe in the Premier League,” Vorm told The Mail in June 2012 when Rodgers left Swansea to become the new manager at Liverpool.

This is not the first time Celtic have been linked with a move for Vorm but, with the veteran slipping down the pecking order at Spurs, you wonder whether a deal could be struck at last in January.
