Celtic have made an offer reaching £4 million for AEK Athens goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas, according to Greek publication Enswi.
If Scott Bain was hoping to prove that the Scottish Premiership champions should call off their Europe-wide search for a new number one, it’s fair to say he did himself no favours during Tuesday’s 4-0 friendly thrashing at Paris Saint-Germain.
The former Dundee glovesman hardly covered himself in glory across the Channel, deceived by a deflected Neymar effort before spilling an Ander Herrera daisycutter into his own net.
As a result, it looks more likely than ever that Celtic will step up their pursuit of a Fraser Forster replacement with reports suggesting that the Scottish Premiership champions have chanced their arm with an offer for Barkas.
Enswi claims that Celtic have offered an initial £3 million, which would rise to £4 million with bonuses included.

AEK, however, want closer to £7 million for a ten-time Greek international who helped knock Brendan Rodgers’ Hoops out of the Champions League during the qualifying rounds in 2018 with some truly brilliant saves.
Given that the likes of David Marshall, Freddie Woodman and Joe Hart could be available for absolutely nothing, either on free transfers or via a loan deal, do not be surprised if Celtic turn their attention elsewhere with funds tight in Glasgow.
