It has been reported by the British tabloid that Liverpool want Ward to sign a new contract before he is loaned out to Championship club Huddersfield Town.
It has also been claimed that the 23-year-old goalkeeper will be allowed to join Huddersfield in the summer transfer window.
According to The Sun, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers also made an inquiry about Ward.
“Liverpool want keeper Danny Ward to sign a new deal before loaning him to Huddersfield,” states the report in The Sun.
“The Wales star, 23, will be allowed to join Reds boss Jurgen Klopp’s pal David Wagner at the Terriers for the season. Celtic chief Brendan Rodgers also made a surprise inquiry.”
Ward has been on the books of Liverpool since 2012 and has a contract with the Merseyside outfit until June 2020, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.
The 23-year-old has yet to establish himself in the Reds’ first team, having played on loan for Morecambe and Aberdeen since 2015.
The goalkeeper was part of the Wales squad that reached the semi-finals of the ongoing 2016 European Championship in France.
With Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius set to fight for the number one spot between the posts next season, the Welshman is going to struggle for playing time yet again at Liverpool, and it would make sense for him to leave Anfield on a season-long loan deal.
Craig Gordon is Celtic’s first-choice goalkeeper, and it would be hard for Ward to displace him from his position next season.
