Celtic seemingly won’t be bringing Tommy Johnson back to the club.

Neil Lennon, Manager of Celtic looks on prior to the UEFA Europa League group E match between Celtic FC and CFR Cluj at Celtic Park on October 03, 2019 in Glasgow, United Kingdom.

According to The Echo, Tommy Johnson is set to follow Henrik Larsson to Southend United despite links surrounding a return to Celtic.

Southend have been searching for a new manager for more than a month now, having sacked Kevin Bond at the beginning of September.

Finally, it seems that they are closing in on an appointment, with local reports suggesting that Henrik Larsson is set to accept the role at long last.

The Swede has been tipped for the role for weeks now, and is now poised to take the job, with Dirk Kuyt remarkably heading to Roots Hall as his assistant.

Another man joining his coaching staff is Johnson, with the former Nottingham Forest scout seemingly set for a coaching role under his ex-Celtic teammate Larsson.

That’s another coup for Southend, and will seemingly rule out the possibility of Johnson returning to Celtic to join another former teammate, Neil Lennon, at Parkhead.

The Scottish Daily Mail (back page, 28/08), reported that Lennon wanted Johnson back at Celtic, 18 years since his departure as a player, with a scouting role in mind for the former striker.

That hasn’t come to fruition six weeks on, and Johnson now looks set for a coaching role with Southend, and most Celtic fans will no doubt wish him and Larsson the best of luck with the League One strugglers.
