The reported Celtic target is seemingly not keen on joining up with Brendan Rodgers again.

According to The Chronicle, Sunderland attack Fabio Borini is keen on a return to Italy this summer.

The 26-year-old is thought to have a £6 million buyout clause written into his contract which is free to be activated now that Sunderland were relegated.

According to The Telegraph, Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers was keen to swoop, having worked with the player on three different occasions and three different clubs.

But The Chronicle claims that the Italy international favours a return to his homeland.

Borini previously worked with the Celtic manager at Chelsea, Swansea and Liverpool, with the Northern Irishman obviously having a strong relationship with him.

He has netted 16 Premier League goals during his time in England’s top flight – two for Liverpool and 14 with Sunderland.

It probably isn’t enough to secure him a switch to another club in the big time but Celtic might have been a solid option.
