The Celtic striker is said to be a transfer target for Serie A side Napoli.

Odsonne Edouard of Celtic FC runs with the ball during a UEFA Europa League qualification match between AIK and Celtic FC at Friends arena on August 29, 2019 in Solna, Sweden.

Celtic are likely to postpone selling Odsonne Edouard beyond the January transfer window, despite interest from the continent, The Daily Mail report.

The paper say that Serie A side Napoli are keen on making a move for the red hot Hoops striker after his exceptional form for club and country over the last few months.

Their interest is not flash in the pan though, with the UEFA Champions League club said to be impressed by his progress over a period of two years.

A £30m fee has been referenced by the outlet, which is certainly the kind of transfer ballpark Celtic are operating in right now after the sale of Kieran Tierney to Arsenal.

Rise in reputation

Edouard, like Moussa Dembele before him, is fast becoming a player considered to be one who can take the next step up to the elite level.

He’s certainly started the season in blistering form, scoring five goals and assisting five times in 12 appearances for the Hoops.

He’s also scored four goals in his last two games for the France U21s side.

It’s a rise in reputation that one day is sure to put him on the path towards a big money Celtic exit.

That’s how the Scottish champions like to conduct their business these days, recognising that in the European pecking order, they are something of a selling club.

No need for fans to worry

Serious transfer interest in the player prior to the January transfer window could be a cause of concern for Celtic supporters when assessing their chances of trophies this season.

Thankfully for them though, the club’s reported stance is a sensible one. There’s to be no talk of selling their number one striker until a transitional period next summer.

That gives supporters not only a full season of Edouard magic, but allows the club to either scout his replacement or develop others such as Vakoun Bayo.

At the very least, the Frenchman will be helping Neil Lennon’s quest for more silverware this season.
