Celtic may well be about to sell Cristian Gamboa this month after his difficult period with the Scottish Premiership champions.

Celtic's Cristian Gamboa attends a training session ahead of their Champions League match against Barcelona in Glasgow on November 22, 2016.

According to a report from The Scottish Sun, Celtic are likely to allow Cristian Gamboa to leave Parkhead this month after his difficult stint in Scotland – as the Costa Rica international attracts attention from Major League Soccer.

Gamboa was one of the signings that Brendan Rodgers made during his first window as Hoops boss, but he has generally struggled for game-time with the Scottish Premiership champions, making just 14 league starts and 23 appearances in all competitions for the club.

This season, he has appeared just twice in all competitions – most notably, featuring in the 3-0 Champions League group-stage defeat to Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena back in October.

And it is appearing increasingly likely that that game will represent Gamboa’s final appearance for the Bhoys, as The Scottish Sun reports that he is set to be allowed to leave the club this month.

The Scottish Sun adds that he is attracting interest from MLS, and it seems unlikely – with Anthony Ralston recently signing a new contract with the club – that Celtic will be too keen to stand in his way.

Celtic go into the winter break in Scotland eight points clear of Aberdeen following their goalless draw with Rangers in December, and will be hoping to make a major impact in the Europa League knockout stages which start in February.
