According to the Daily Mail, Celtic are leading the race to sign Welsh international star Hal Robson-Kanu on a free transfer, despite interest from the Bundesliga.
The Bhoys will be in the market for new signings under recently-appointed manager Brendan Rodgers, but he will be working with a vastly inferior budget to the one he had at former club Liverpool.
That means that loans and free agents will be considered by Rodgers, and one player certainly makes sense due to his history with the Celtic boss.
The Daily Mail report that the Bhoys are currently the frontrunners to sign winger Hal Robson-Kanu on a free transfer, having left Reading this summer.
Robson-Kanu, 27, worked with Rodgers in the Reading youth setup, before Rodgers handed the wide man his professional debut with the Royals, and it seems that a Glasgow reunion is wanted.
Having scored Wales’ winning goal against Slovakia at Euro 2016 on Saturday, Robson-Kanu is not only now a Welsh hero, but also in demand given his free agent status.
It’s claimed that whilst Celtic are the favourites to land Robson-Kanu, teams in Germany have made contact with the player’s representatives to try and seal a deal.
With versatility to play up front or out wide, Robson-Kanu could be a valuable attacking weapon thanks to his athleticism – but Celtic may have to hope that Rodgers’ influence can win them the race for his signature.
