According to Foot Mercato, Celtic are now interested in bringing Ahmed Touba to the Scottish Premiership.
What’s the story?
Well, after securing the signing of Cameron Carter-Vickers on a permanent basis, it seems Ange Postecoglou is now looking to sign another central defender.
Foot Mercato believe Celtic have looked into Touba’s profile in recent weeks, as have a whole host of European sides.
The French news outlet add that Marseille, Sevilla, Olympiakos, Angers, Benfica, Real Betis, AEK Athens and Bayer Leverkusen are all interested in the 24-year-old.
Therefore, Celtic have their work cut out if they are to win the race for Touba’s signature.
Interestingly, the Algeria international’s contract expires in June 2023, so this summer could be RKC Waalwijk‘s last chance to receive a fee for their No.59 – Foot Mercato do not mention anything about an extension.
They do, however, describe Touba as a fast defender, who is also solid in physical duels.
Ahmed Touba could shine at Celtic
By the sounds of it, Touba could be a good addition for Postecoglou at Celtic Park.
The Algerian is still fairly young at the age of 24, so his arrival would represent a long-term investment from the Bhoys, while he would also carry good sell-on value.
Impressively, Touba was also nominated for the Defender of the Year award in 2021, alongside Ajax duo Daley Blind and Lisandro Martinez, as well as Marco Senesi and Jacob Rasmussen.
Given the success of Jota, Kyogo Furuhashi, Reo Hatate and more of Postecoglou’s signings, we have confidence in the 56-year-old. If Touba arrives, we wouldn’t be surprised to see him shine in Glasgow.
Above all, Celtic must find a way to fend off the multitude of European giants also battling to sign Touba.
