Celtic have reportedly been keeping a keen eye on the Dinamo Zagreb defender.

A report in The Scottish Sun has suggested that Celtic are considering making a move for Dinamo Zagreb defender Filip Benkovic, and his agent has now spoken about the current status of the potential transfer.

The Scottish Sun reports that the Hoops have watched the 19-year-old closely this season, and are now weighing up whether to pursue a deal for the youngster, who Zagreb hope to keep by offering him a new five-year contract.

It would not be the first time that Celtic have looked to Dinamo Zagreb as they look to bolster their squad, having signed fellow defender Jozo Simunovic from the Croatian heavyweights in 2015.

Despite news of the Scottish Premiership side’s interest however, the prospect’s agent Christian Hack has confirmed to the Daily Record (via their live transfer feed; 5th January 2017, 13:40) that the Bhoys are yet to confirm their interest with an enquiry or bid.

“I can say that this is only a rumour and, 100 per cent, there has been no contact from Celtic about Filip,” he told the Record.

Though Simunovic and Erik Sviatchenko have impressed at the back this term for Celtic, it could certainly be argued that Brendan Rodgers could do with adding some extra depth in that area of the field, especially with Dedryck Boyata looking destined to move on during this window (via The Scottish Sun).

And if Rodgers feels that Benkovic – who has already featured in the Champions League – can become a player who boasts a similar amount of ability as Simunovic, then he will surely be making a mistake if he allows the window to close without making an offer.
