According to The Scottish Sun, Celtic are locked in talks with Peterborough United over a deal to sign striker Ivan Toney.

It’s claimed that head of football operations Nick Hammond is in negotiations with the League One club to try and agree a fee.

Peterborough have actually accepted one bid already, with Brentford already succeeding with one offer – but Celtic had asked for updates.

The Posh have now informed Celtic of Brentford’s bid, and the Bhoys are trying to hijack their move with an offer of their own.

It’s even claimed that new Celtic coach Gavin Strachan has ‘urged’ the Bhoys to get Toney signed up, having worked together at Peterborough.

Toney, 24, has been a star for Peterborough since joining from Newcastle United in 2018, smashing 49 goals in 94 games.

Darren Ferguson’s men have missed out on promotion from League One, and it now seems that Toney could move on.

Celtic are looking for another striker to support Odsonne Edouard, Leigh Griffiths and Patryk Klimala, and Toney may be that player – but they will have to move quickly to beat Brentford.
