According to the Daily Mail, Celtic have snapped up Bolton Wanderers midfielder Luca Connell for an absolute snip at just £350,000.

The Bhoys had splashed the cash on defender Christopher Jullien from Toulouse, but decided to make a much cheaper move with the signing of Connell.

Celtic raided League One side Bolton to sign Connell, who emerged as one of their few shining lights in their dismal relegation campaign last season.

The 18-year-old showed major potential last season, and whilst there has been a slight wrangle over his contract, Celtic have paid just £350,000 in compensation.

Bolton administrators rejected Connell’s attempts to cancel his contract, but once Celtic threatened legal action, Bolton accepted the offer of £350,000.

That appears to be a major bargain. Connell has only played 12 first-team games for Bolton, but the tenacity and endeavour he showed, as well as his composure on the ball, mean he’s such an exciting talent.

Let’s not forget that Celtic will need to replace Scott Brown in the future. At 34, Celtic needed to find an heir to their talismanic captain, and they may well hope that Connell is that player.

If he can turn that tenacity into a real combative streak, Celtic will hope that Connell can eventually step into that central midfield role, and paying such a bargain price for Brown’s potential heir is impressive – especially having spent almost 10 times that on Eboue Kouassi in 2017.
