According to The Scottish Sun, Celtic’s offer to re-sign goalkeeper Craig Gordon is a remarkable cut of 80% – and that’s why he’s looking elsewhere.

The Bhoys have already released Jozo Simunovic, Calvin Miller and Jonny Hayes, whilst Gordon’s deal expired earlier this month.

Celtic want to keep Gordon as cover, given that Fraser Forster’s future is up in the air. However, Celtic want him to take a staggering wage cut in order to stay.

Celtic allegedly offered Gordon a deal featuring a huge 80% cut, and haven’t improved their offer. Gordon is now subsequently considering a return to Hearts.

The Scottish Sun reported in January that Gordon earns £20,000-a-week at Celtic. An 80% cut on that would be just £4,000-a-week, so it’s no great surprise that he isn’t impressed.

The 37-year-old is free to move on, and 13 years since leaving Hearts, he could end up heading back to Tynecastle.

With Gordon unhappy at Celtic’s offer, Hearts could be the favourites for Gordon’s signature despite their relegation – and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him earn more there than he would if he stayed at Celtic.
