Everton are said to be leading the race to sign the Newcastle United youngster, but Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic are among the many clubs they’ll have to see off.

Everton are leading the race to sign Lewis Gibson, but Celtic are giving them serious competition for the Newcastle United left-back, the Liverpool Echo reports.
With his 17th birthday two months away, Gibson is yet to sign a professional contract at Newcastle, and is also said to have interest from Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal and Southampton.
The report claims that Everton director of football Steve Walsh is overseeing an “aggressive recruitment drive of players aged between 16-18”, and the progress made by Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Ademola Lookman and Tom Davies at first-team level this season will surely appeal to the likes of Gibson.

Nevertheless, with Emilio Izaguirre out of contract and Kieran Tierney said to have interest south of the border, Gibson may view a move to Celtic as the clearest route to securing senior football in the next few years.

Fellow youngsters Patrick Roberts and Moussa Dembele have also excelled since arriving at Celtic Park, something the England Under-17 international will likely be encouraged by.
Would Everton or Celtic be the best move for Newcastle’s Gibson?
