Celtic are reportedly keen on Benfica midfielder Guillermo Celis.

According to The Scottish Sun, Celtic are lining up a January move to sign Benfica midfielder Guillermo Celis after a deal for Portland Timbers ace Darlington Nagbe fell through.

The Bhoys beat Ross County 2-0 on Wednesday evening to make it 18 wins from 19 league games this season, and 14 league victories in a row.

Despite Celtic’s incredible form under Brendan Rodgers, the Bhoys will be looking for new additions during the January transfer window, and a new midfielder appears to be a priority.

Whilst the Daily Mail recently reported that Celtic were keen on Crystal Palace midfielder Jordon Mutch, The Scottish Sun claimed that Portland Timbers playmaker Darlington Nagbe was a top midfield target for the club, before a £3million deal fell through.

Now, Celtic are being linked with another midfielder, as The Scottish Sun report that Rodgers’ men are plotting a possible move for Benfica misfit Guillermo Celis.

Celis, 23, joined the Portuguese giants from Junior in his native Colombia over the summer, and whilst he’s appeared in Champions League games against Besiktas and Dynamo Kiev, he’s played just 49 minutes in total this season.

It’s stated that Celtic are closely monitoring Celis ahead of a possible January bid for him, with Benfica allegedly willing to sell for the right price, just months after he penned a five-year deal at the Estadio da Luz.

An energetic holding midfielder with six caps for the Colombian national team, Celis has struggled for first-team football with Benfica but could be a smart signing, if they can fend off Dynamo Kiev and Club Brugge, who are also interested.
