According to the Daily Mail, Celtic are interested in a summer deal for Red Star Belgrade winger Srdjan Plavsic, as they line up potential alternatives to Patrick Roberts.

The Bhoys have seen Roberts – currently coming to the end of an 18 month loan deal from Manchester City – excel under Brendan Rodgers this season, notching seven goals and nine assists in the Scottish Premiership.

With Roberts’ return to the Etihad Stadium now imminent, Celtic need to look at alternative options out wide, and their search appears to have taken them to Serbia.

The Daily Mail report that the Bhoys are interested in signing Red Star Belgrade winger Srdjan Plavsic, who has starred in his native Serbia.

Plavsic, who stands at just 5ft 5in tall, started out with Vojvodina, CSK Celarevo and Spartak Subotica before moving on to Red Star Belgrade in 2015, scoring twice in his first season with the club last term.

This season, the diminutive winger has hit eight goals in 36 games, and it’s claimed that his performance have earned ‘favourable reviews’ from Celtic scouts ahead of the summer transfer window.

Quick, tricky, incisive and packing a ferocious shot from range, Plavsic has become one of the most impressive players in Serbia, and the 21-year-old is also believed to be a target for Turkish side Bursaspor.

Red Star are believed to want more than £1.5million for Plavsic, which could be a bargain for the Bhoys, and as a diminutive, right-sided winger with a great left foot, he could be a like-for-like replacement for Roberts should Celtic fail to bring him back to Glasgow.
