Celtic are ‘expected’ to complete the loan signing of Japanese attacker Daizen Maeda in the coming days, with the Hoops also securing an option-to-buy clause in the deal.
According to Hochi News, the Scottish giants have wrapped up a deal to sign the Yokohama F. Marinos in January. Maeda will join Celtic initially on loan.
However, Ange Postecoglou’s side reportedly have an option to make the signing permanent for just £1.6m in the summer should Maeda impress in for the Bhoys in Green.
Maeda has been one of the best players in Japan over the past 12 months, with the 24-year-old scoring 23 goals in 36 J1 League matches for the Marinos. A feat made that more impressive given that the forward mainly plays as a left-winger.
Indeed, Postecoglou has already brought one gem from Japan to Celtic since being appointed in Kyogo Furuhashi, with the 26-year-old staking a claim as the Hoops’ best player this season.
And Maeda could be another success story from the east Asian nation for Celtic given his goalscoring record in Japan in 2021.
Celtic have landed themselves a bargain in Maeda
Kyogo’s success at Celtic Park doesn’t guarantee that Maeda will have a similar spell with the Scottish side. However, there’s no denying that the Hoops have secured a bargain deal in the Japanese winger.
At just £1.6m, Celtic have landed a deal with Maeda that could spur them to the Scottish Premiership title. And with the winger flourishing in one of Asia’s top leagues, there’s no doubt that the attacker could replicate this form for Postecoglou’s side.
