Celtic have gone off the idea of signing Paddy McNair, according to a report.
The Record has reported that Celtic have ‘cooled’ their interest in Middlesbrough star Paddy McNair.
The 24-year-old former Manchester United utility man has been linked with a £5 million move to the Hoops and manager Neil Lennon confirmed recently that he’s a target [The Scottish Sun].
Celtic have had a busy weekend on the transfer front after making their first two signings of the summer – Christopher Jullien and Luca Connell.
But it looks like McNair, as things stand, won’t be joining the duo in Glasgow as The Record claims that the Scottish giants have done a u-turn on their pursuit.
It’s a shame from the Bhoys’ perspective. McNair is young and versatile, capable of playing centre-back or in central midfield.
As mentioned, Celtic signed Connell on Saturday, a midfielder, but he’s only 18 years old and it’s likely that Lennon will still be in the market for another centre-mid after the David Turnbull fiasco.
The Northern Irishman looked set to wrap up a £3.25 million move for the Motherwell star last week, only for the medical to reveal a knee injury that’ll sideline him for the guts of six months potentially.
There is a lot of time in which Celtic can rekindle a move for McNair but, for now, it seems a no-go.
