STV have reported that Celtic defender Mikael Lustig will now miss next weekend’s pivotal Old Firm derby against Rangers after the Hoops’ clash against Dundee was called off.

Brendan Rodgers’ side were scheduled to face Dundee at Parkhead on Wednesday night in the Scottish Premiership, with the Hoops expected to earn an easy win over Neil McCann’s side.

Sweden international Lustig, 31, is suspended and would have served his ban on Wednesday had the game gone ahead, after he was sent off against Aberdeen on Sunday for two bookable offences.

However, the 62-time international will now miss the Old Firm clash against Rangers as the ban does not apply to the Scottish Cup with the Hoops now preparing to face Greenock Morton on Saturday in the quarter finals.

Lustig has been a mainstay in the Celtic side and has made 40 appearances in all competitions this season. His loss will come as a huge blow to Brendan Rodgers, who will now have a big decision to make on who to replace him.

With Anthony Ralston sidelined, Rodgers has two options when looking to replace Lustig. Cristian Gamboa is the slightly easier option, though the Costa Rica international has featured just three times all season.

It could mean that Rodgers fields a three-man defence with wing-backs, meaning in-form James Forrest lines up in a slightly deeper role at right wing-back – which he has done this season.
