The Celtic stalwart picked up a knee injury while away with Sweden.
Celtic’s Mikael Lustig
Celtic are facing a nervous wait following the international break as they wait to find out the full extent of the injury that Mikael Lustig sustained while on international duty, the Daily Record reports.
The 29-year-old was part of the Sweden squad that was called up for the World Cup qualifiers against Luxembourg and Bulgaria.

But while it was his goal that proved the difference against the former, a spokesman for the Swedish FA confirmed that he picked up a knock in the same game that prevented him from being involved in the 3-0 win over Bulgaria.
“Mikael took a hit to his knee in the game against Luxembourg.” the Swedish FA spokesman explained, as reported by the Daily Record.
“He felt it in training before the game with Bulgaria and it hurt him when he ran. The medical team tested him before the start and stated he could not play.”
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers
If it turns out that the injury will keep him out of the game against Motherwell this weekend, it will arguably be a significant blow to Brendan Rodgers’ plans.
The full-back has been fairly consistent this term regardless of whether he has been deployed in his natural position or in the centre of the defence.
And with Cristian Gamboa yet to really prove himself following his summer move, Rodgers will surely be hoping that missing the Bulgaria clash has enhanced Lustig’s chances of being ready for the weekend, especially with games against Borussia Monchengladbach and Rangers just around the corner.
