Celtic centre-back Kristoffer Ajer has put pen to paper on a new four-year contract which will see the 20-year-old remain at Celtic Park until at least 2022.
Norwegian international defender Kristoffer Ajer has established himself as a first-team addition at the heart of the champions’ defence this term, and looks likely to play a large part in the Hoops’ title defence next term after signing a new deal (as reported by BBC Sport).
Ajer has played a large role this term, making 33 appearances for Brendan Rodgers’ outfit after spending the latter half of last season on loan with Steve Clarke’s Kilmarnock, and it now looks as though further loans are out of the question.
He was initially brought to the club as a 17-year-old by former manager Ronny Deila after showing promise playing in his native country.
Ajer plied his trade with Norwegian side IK Start before joining Celtic in 2016, but despite his obvious quality, he was deemed surplus to requirements and made just a single appearance for the club – a Champions League qualifier against Lincoln Red Imps.
The season hardly exploded for the young stalwart either, as again he was limited to a handful of appearances up until December. However, the arrival of Brendan Rodgers has given Ajer a new lease of life and he is now a recognised starter for the Bhoys.
He also has Rodgers to thank for his recent call up to the national side, having finally been given the platform to showcase his ability.
