Celtic think Ado Onaiwu could replace Odsonne Edouard at Parkhead with the Japan international potentially set for a reunion with new Hoops boss Ange Postecoglou, as reported by Les Violets.

Whether one of Britain’s biggest clubs even need an Edouard replacement remains to be seen.

Leicester City turned their attention to Red Bull Salzburg wonderkid Patson Daka, after balking at the price-tag hanging on a striker who will be a free agent this time next year.

The likes of Arsenal, Aston Villa and Roma appear to be looking elsewhere too and, with interest drying up, do not be surprised if Edouard is still strutting his stuff in green and white come September.

By that time, Onaiwu could be settling into a new life in the picturesque city of Toulouse instead.

The Ligue 2 outfit are expected to win the race for the Yokohoma F Marinos striker; a man who spent five months working with Postecoglou from January to June.

Are Celtic about to miss out on Ado Oniawu?

Toulouse-based publication Les Violets reports that Onaiwu would have been high on Celtic’s list should Edouard depart.

A Japan international with a Nigerian mother who has found the net three times in two international appearances, Onaiwu has also scored an impressive 15 goals in 27 games this season alone.

“I’ve read about the speculation about my future, but my only thought at the moment is to try and catch Kawasaki Frontale in the league because they are nine points ahead of us,” Onaiwu said, according to the Scottish Sun, earlier this month.

“I think I’ve had a pretty good season and a lot of that is down to the chances created by my teammates.”

While Onaiwu looks unlikely to become a Celtic player before the end of the summer, Postecoglou has already snapped up one J-League sensation in the shape of Kyogo Furuhashi.

Liel Abada has also arrived from Maccabi Petah Tikva.
