According to The Mirror, Celtic attempted to put an injury clause into a deal for Ben Davies – and that gave Liverpool time to swoop.
It’s claimed that Davies was looking set for a pre-contract agreement with the Bhoys given that his Preston contract was due to expire this summer.
However, Celtic allegedly inserted a clause in their offer which required Davies to be injury-free and ready to play upon making his move to Parkhead.
For some reason, Davies wavered on that issue and gave Liverpool time to swoop in and take him to Anfield in a £1.6million deal.
Neil Lennon was ‘frustrated’ that Celtic missed out on signing Davies, believing that the deal was close before the Reds hijacked the move.
The 25-year-old starred in the Championship with Preston, and his deadline day move to Anfield is something of a dream for him.

Davies moving elsewhere now leaves Celtic needing to go back into the transfer market this summer in search of a centre back – and they’re unlikely to find a similar bargain.
Davies could be in contention to face Manchester City today, so just why he allegedly backed way over that injury clause is somewhat unclear.
