Celtic are reportedly pulling out of a move for Portland Timbers playmaker Darlington Nagbe.

According to The Scottish Sun, Celtic have pulled out of a deal to sign Portland Timbers playmaker Darlington Nagbe despite advanced talks over a move.

The Bhoys are coasting towards the Scottish Premiership title having won 17 of their 18 league games this season, leaving them 14 points clear of Old Firm rivals Rangers – and they still have a game in hand.

Manager Brendan Rodgers will still be keen on making additions to his squad, with the Bhoys boss seemingly looking to bring in a new midfielder during the January transfer window.

One player heavily linked with the club over the last month is Portland Timbers star Darlington Nagbe, who visited Celtic Park to watch the Champions League clash against Barcelona in November.

The 26-year-old playmaker has starred in Major League Soccer, and despite being born in Liberia, he has now made ten appearances for the United States national team having switched his allegiance in 2015.

Earlier this week, The Scottish Sun reported that Celtic were close to completing a £3million move for Nagbe, handing Rodgers his first January signing days before the window opens.

However, The Scottish Sun now claim that Celtic have pulled the plug on the deal at the last minute, with Rodgers believed to be pursuing alternative targets to bolster his midfield.

It’s claimed that Nagbe was on the verge of penning a £10,000-a-week contract with Celtic, but Rodgers is instead pressing ahead with moves for two other midfielders, with Portland Timbers now allegedly told that the deal has collapsed – and Rodgers will hope to have a new face in by January 6th, when Celtic head to Dubai for a training camp.
