Celtic believe that a combination of European football and the chance to fight for silverware could tempt Sheffield United defender George Baldock to sign on the dotted line, as reported by The Star.

When Old Firm rivals Rangers confirmed the signing of Baldock’s old Bramall Lane teammate this week, John Lundstram left no one in any doubt about why he decided to up sticks and move north of the border.

The chance to swap the Championship for the Champions League is not one that comes around often.

“As an outsider looking in, the scenes last season were unbelievable when the club won the league, and when I saw that, I knew I wanted to be a part of it and be a part of a club which wins more trophies for Rangers,” Lundstram explained.

“The pull of being in the Champions League was also massive for me.”

It is not hard to imagine Baldock saying something similar, should he end the summer in green and white.

Will George Baldock swap Sheffield United for Celtic?

The talented right-back has emerged as one of Celtic’s top targets ahead of a hectic seven weeks between now and September 1, with The Star reporting that new manager Ange Postecoglou has chosen Baldock as his top pick after analysing a number of potential options.

Celtic are yet to approach the Sheffield United bosses to express their interest, however, never mind launch a bid.

The Star suggests that the former MK Dons and Oxford man may be too expensive, highlighting a fee in the region of £8 million.

But if Celtic do firm up their interest, a player who has spent much of his career in the lower leagues of English football may see this as a once in a lifetime opportunity; a chance to secure a seat at Europe’s top table, all the while getting his hands on some silverware on the hallowed Parkhead turf.

Celtic have also been linked with Eredivisie right-back Milan Van Ewijk and Sporting Lisbon’s Valentin Rosier. The former has joined Heerenveen instead while the latter has his heart set on Besiktas.
