The Watford winger is reportedly still a prime target for Celtic.
Celtic believe Champions League football will help attract Watford winger Ikechi Anya to Parkhead, according to the Daily Mirror.
The Hornets man may want to stay with the newly promoted outfit to ply his trade in the Premier League – but Celtic are not letting that deter them, the Mirror claim.
Indeed, the Bhoys believe they can still attract Anya to Scotland, despite Watford’s promotion from the Championship, and will offer £4 million.
That would leave the wide man with a fascinating choice – the Premier League or European football (even if Celtic don’t make the Champions League and head for the Europa).
| Championship | Chances Created | Assists | Final-Third Passes | Appearances | Minutes Played |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Daniel Tözsér | 74 | 5 | 437 | 45 | 3,218 |
| Matej Vydra | 68 | 5 | 346 | 42 | 2,585 |
| Troy Deeney | 63 | 9 | 428 | 42 | 3,422 |
| Odion Ighalo | 38 | 3 | 174 | 35 | 1,939 |
| Almen Abdi | 35 | 2 | 338 | 32 | 2,251 |
| Ikechi Anya | 35 | 7 | 255 | 35 | 2,463 |
As Opta stats show, Anya was one of Watford’s more creative players going forward as the Hornets secured promotion this season.
The 27-year-old Scotland international didn’t score during the Championship campaign but registered more assists than any other Watford player except Troy Deeney. Anya also created 35 chances and completed over 250 passes in the final third.
Anya’s pace and evident eagerness to get involved in build-up play could be perfect for Celtic should he make a summer move to the Bhoys. And, whatever doubts over his quality some may have, boss Ronny Deila is said to be in ‘hot pursuit.’
