Celtic have reportedly begun discussions with the Austrian club over a move for Boli Mbombo.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, Celtic have now entered talks with Rapid Vienna over a potential move for Boli Mbombo as Neil Lennon’s men prepare for Kieran Tierney’s possible departure.
Tierney’s future is up in the air this summer, with the Mail reporting that Arsenal are preparing an improved £19 million bid for the left-back. And Celtic appears to be making plans for potential exit.
The Mail reports that the Hoops want Mbombo, but they face competition from the likes of Burnley, Napoli and Sampdoria for the £3 million-rated 23-year-old.
However, it would appear that Celtic are making good progress in their pursuit, with the report suggesting that they are now in talks with Rapid over a potential move.
Big shoes to fill
If Tierney does leave, he is going to leave a massive void for Lennon to fill. He struggled with injury last season, but is, without question, the best left-back in the Scottish Premiership, and had no problem stepping up when Celtic were involved in the Champions League.
He is also an incredibly popular figure amongst the supporters. So if Mbombo is the player who replaces Tierney – if he himself moves on – he may feel that is under some pressure to hit the ground running at Parkhead at the start of next season.
