According to The Scottish Sun, Celtic are considering a shock move to make John Kennedy their new sporting director.

It’s claimed that the Bhoys hierarchy value Kennedy highly, and want to keep him around even once his time as interim boss is over.

Instead of staying on the coaching side though, Kennedy could instead move upstairs and become sporting director, working alongside the club’s next manager in more of a recruitment role.

That manager is still expected to be Eddie Howe despite a major delay in luring him to Parkhead despite holding talks with him almost a month ago.

Manchester City’s Fergal Harkin is still being considered for the sporting director role, but Kennedy is now a fascinating name in the frame for the job.

Kennedy came up through the Celtic ranks, played for the club at senior level, became a scout, a youth coach, a first-team coach, an assistant manager and now interim manager.

The 37-year-old has almost unbreakable ties to Celtic, and it’s understandable that the club want to keep him, even if this new role would need him to draw more on that scouting history.

Overlooking Harkin for Kennedy would be a major surprise from Celtic, and such a move may not exactly smack of leading to a bright new era.

Still, Kennedy is young and knows the club inside out, so Celtic may believe that he has the potential to make this role his own for years to come if he can grow into the position.
