Sunderland’s Josh Maja has been linked with plenty of clubs this month.

French newspaper L’Equipe claim Sunderland striker Josh Maja is set to join Ligue 1 side Bordeaux immediately, and will remain with the French club rather than returning to the Stadium of Light on loan.

Maja, 20, is in the final six months of his contract at Sunderland and the Black Cats had quoted interested parties £4million for his signature. A whole host of British clubs have been linked with his signature.

The Scottish Sun claimed Celtic wanted to sign Maja and loan him back to Sunderland until the end of the season, while the Northern Echo reported West Ham United wanted to do similar – but loan him back for 18 months.

Celtic’s bitter Old Firm rivals Rangers, as well as English Premier League sides Tottenham Hotspur and Cardiff City have also been interested in signing the striker who has been in superb form this season.

He has scored 16 goals in just 30 league and cup appearances this season, helping Sunderland dream of an instant return to the Championship with the Black Cats sitting in third place in League One.

Bordeaux, as a non-English club, can sign Maja on a pre-contract agreement which would see him leave Sunderland on a free under the Bosman ruling and join the French side in the summer.

But L’Equipe report that Maja is set to join Bordeaux immediately on a four-and-a-half-year deal, meaning Sunderland will receive a fee for their striker’s services. Nothing has been confirmed, but L’Equipe are confident in their report.
