According to Corriere dello Sport, Celtic and Rangers target Aaron Hickey has decided to join Italian side Bologna in a loan to buy deal.

The talented defender has been heavily linked with a move from Hearts this summer.

A recent report from the Glasgow Evening Times claimed Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Lazio were rivalling Celtic and Rangers for his signature.

Hearts’ relegation from the Scottish Premiership has made a big impact.

Hickey, 18, has shown far too much potential to be playing in the Scottish Championship and the situation sees him available for a potential bargain fee.

But Rangers and Celtic are seemingly set to miss out to Bologna.

Corriere dello Sport claims the Serie A club will sign Hickey soon on an initial loan deal with a £1.5 million obligation to buy him in the summer of 2021.

The Italian editorial adds that despite late Bayern interest, Hickey is set on Bologna.

It is a brave move for the left-footed defender but perhaps one motivated by the potential to quickly break into Bologna’s starting eleven and feature regularly.

Celtic and Rangers will be disappointed to miss out on the Scottish talent. However, it’s likely neither club could guarantee him a regular playing spot for the time being.
