Manchester City are reportedly set to block Celtic and Everton by offering Tosin Adarabioyo £25,000-a-week.

According to The Telegraph, Manchester City have backed down and agreed to pay defender Tosin Adarabioyo £25,000-a-week in order to fend off interest from Everton and Celtic.

City haven’t been able to bring through many homegrown talents in recent years, but defender Adarabioyo has emerged as one of their most exciting prospects in recent years.

The giant centre back, who stands at 6ft 5in tall, has made four first-team appearances for City but has yet to make his Premier League debut, and also has 15 caps for England across various youth levels.

City have been concerned recently though, as Adarabioyo’s contract was set to expire this summer, which would have enabled him to walk away from the Etihad Stadium – but Pep Guardiola’s men appear to be striking a deal.

The Telegraph report that City have backed down and given in to Adarabioyo’s demands, agreeing to pay him £25,000-a-week – which could rise once he becomes a first-team regular at the Etihad Stadium.

The move comes as City look to block Celtic and Everton from making moves to sign Adarabioyo, with both teams allegedly keen on luring the centre back away from Guardiola’s side this summer.

Whilst Everton would have been forced to pay considerable compensation to land Adarabioyo, cross-border contract rules mean that Celtic could have landed a real bargain, as they did with ex-Fulham attacker Moussa Dembele last summer.

However, City now believe they have secured a deal to keep Adarabioyo, paying him a hefty wage despite his lack of first-team football, with the club clearly worried that he would have moved on otherwise.
