According to The Scottish Sun, Celtic are planning to offload goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas this summer.

The Bhoys swooped to sign Barkas from AEK Athens last summer, paying £4.5million to lure him over to Scotland.

As a huge presence with international experience for Greece, Barkas appeared to be an ideal signing to fill the void left by Craig Gordon.

However, the 26-year-old has struggled at Parkhead, and particularly came in for criticism after the 2-0 home defeat to Rangers in October.

Barkas has lost his place to Scott Bain and Conor Hazard at different stages of the season, and it seems his time with the Bhoys could be coming to an end.

It’s now claimed that Celtic will attempt to cut their losses on the Greek international, with the goalkeeping position likely to be a priority.

Barkas may well receive interest from back in his native Greece, but it’s clear that the Bhoys don’t have all that much faith in him – especially after Neil Lennon’s doubts over how he has settled in Scotland.

Maybe a new manager could have a different view on Barkas, but his days with Celtic appear to be numbered already in what has been a dismal transfer.
