According to the Daily Record, Celtic are already looking to sign Shane Duffy permanently next summer having landed him on loan.

After weeks of speculation, the Bhoys landed Duffy on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion on Wednesday, taking him for the season.

Celtic have paid £2million to take Duffy on loan, whilst they’re also paying half of his £45,000-a-week wages during his time at Parkhead.

Bhoys chiefs are allegedly ‘convinced’ that Duffy will be a roaring success with Celtic, and are already looking to fund a permanent move.

Duffy is contracted to Brighton until 2023, and Premier League clubs were willing to pay £10million to sign him this summer before he forced through a move to Celtic.

That would be a club-record fee for Celtic to pay, and whilst Duffy will be closer to 30 in a year, it’s hard to imagine his price tag dropping too much.

Celtic are at least aided by Duffy’s lifelong love for the club; he grew up supporting the Bhoys, which is why he picked them over Premier League clubs.

That may well help facilitate a permanent move, and Celtic at least have around a year to finance such a move.
