Celtic moving for Leeds star Charlie Taylor could hurt the Championship side financially.

Celtic are keen on wrapping up a deal for Leeds United defender Charlie Taylor.

The Sun (24/6 page 64) report Brendan Rodgers wants a deal done for Taylor before they play their Champions League qualifiers next month.

The left-back is currently on the lookout for a new club and Celtic are hopeful of beating Burnley and West Brom to a deal.

Leeds are expecting to lose Taylor, with the defender’s contract set to expire at the end of this month.

Yet Leeds would be entitled to substantial compensation if he signs for an English club as he came through the academy and could see them receive upwards of £5 million, with the Sun’s report suggesting even £10 Millon.

The problem is that as Celtic are in Scotland, they would not be required to pay a big compensation fee.

Instead they could pay just one-tenth of the fee Leeds would have got, leaving them with less than £1 million.

Celtic signed Fulham’s Moussa Dembele in the same way last summer.

Leeds have their own transfer targets to acquire and would likely have been factoring in receiving a healthy fee for Taylor.

If the left-back moves to Celtic then it would be among the worst case scenarios and a final kick in the teeth for the Whites from a player who refused to play for the club on the final game of the season.
