Celtic will reportedly need to agree a compromise if they hope to sign Tommy Smith from Huddersfield Town this summer.

According to a report from The Sun on Sunday (7/7; page 61), Huddersfield want £4 million for Tommy Smith this summer, but Celtic value the defender at £2.5 million.
Smith is attracting plenty of attention following the Terriers’ two-year stay in the Premier League, with The Sun on Sunday reporting that the Bhoys and Stoke City are both interested in offering him a fresh challenge during this window.
Huddersfield appear to be open to letting the 27-year-old leave in the coming weeks, but The Sun on Sunday (7/7; page 61) claims that Jan Siewert’s men have set a £4 million asking price for the right-back.
And it appears that a compromise may need to be reached, with the report adding that both Celtic and Stoke’s valuations are around £1.5 million short of what Huddersfield are asking for.

Given Celtic’s need to sign a new right-back this summer, it would not be a huge surprise if the Scottish Premiership champions looked to do as much as they could to reach a compromise with Huddersfield.
The valuations are not a significant distance apart – especially when you consider that Smith would also add to Celtic’s depth at centre-back – and Neil Lennon’s men would arguably be wise to try and wrap up a deal as quickly as possible to ensure that the door is not open for the Potters.
