Tottenham Hotspur are in negotiations with 20-year-old Pape Cheikh Diop and will offer him a vastly improved contract.

Understandably, Pape Cheikh Diop is quite keen on the idea of swapping Celta Vigo for Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

Although the Andalusian side have overachieved commendably in recent seasons, reaching the Europa League semi-final in 2016/17 only to lose to Manchester United, the prospect of joining a Spurs’ side with a genuine chance of lifting their first ever Premier League title undoubtedly appeals.

According to Spanish radio station Cadena Ser, Tottenham are already in negotiations with the 20-year-old midfielder. Despite Diop having a £25 million release clause in his contact, it is understood that Celta would accept offers in excess of £10 million.

The report adds that the Senegalese-born Spanish youth international, who made 16 La Liga appearances last season, is enticed by the prospect of playing his football at Wembley in Tottenham colours this season.

The prospect of working under Mauricio Pochettino, a coach renowned for his ability to get the best out of young players, plus the added fillip of Champions League football, makes Spurs a dream destination for a 20-year-old aiming to fulfil his vast potential.

Furthermore, the report adds that Diop would earn a dramatically increased wage in North London. Tottenham’s infamous ‘wage structure’ has come under fire recently, left-back Danny Rose hinting that he may be tempted to leave the club for a bigger contract elsehwere in an explosive interview with The Sun.

However, if appears that Diop would be more than happy with the figures put on the table by Spurs.

The youngster is a defensive midfielder renowned for his tough tackling and dynamic dribbling, and would provide back-up for Victor Wanyama and Eric Dier at the heart of Spurs’ engine room.
