A report on page 54 of The Sun’s printed edition has cast doubt on Everton’s chances of signing Chelsea striker Diego Costa.

Costa is said to want out of Stamford Bridge, and is expected to re-sign for Atletico Madrid ahead of Thursday’s deadline.

But with the Spanish side unable to register new players until January because of a transfer ban, and a loan move has been mooted in the meantime, with Everton mentioned as a possible destination.

Toffees boss Ronald Koeman is hoping to sign another striker this week, and has failed to rule out the prospect of Costa arriving at Goodison Park.

But according to The Sun, Chelsea insiders have said there is little chance of that happening, with the 28-year-old set on a move to Spain.

It is claimed he could spend the next four months in the Canary Islands, with a loan to Las Palmas lined up.

The Gran Canaria based side have already borrowed winger Vitolo from Atletico, who signed him from Sevilla earlier this summer.
