The trail on Leeds United’s pursuit of Jerry Mbakogu has gone rather cold recently.
All the Leeds United-related chatter at the moment revolves around two men: Marcelo Bielsa and Abel Hernandez.
According to The Mirror, Leeds could hire Bielsa as their next head coach within the next week, while fans of the Elland Road club would love to see the heavily-linked Uruguayan striker join him.
But before the both of them were on United’s radar, there was Jerry Mbakogu.
The trail on Mbakogu has gone cold in recent weeks since Gazzamercato reported that Leeds had agreed a deal with Serie B outfit Carpi for his signature, with the price tag supposed to be between £3-£4 million.
But if reports in Italy are anything to go by, there may be progress on that front again soon.
Gazzetta Di Modena are reporting that Carpi have contacted Bari over signing Libor Kozak, who may replace the Nigerian striker in Italy, and that there will be further discussions with the former Aston Villa striker.
The report adds that the Serie B outfit also want Federico Melchiorri on a permanent basis, so it seems plausible that Carpi may be waiting to sign Mbakogu’s replacement before they sanction the 25-year-old’s transfer to Leeds.
