Leeds United’s links with Carpi striker Jerry Mbakogu have taken another turn.
According to Gazzetta Di Modena, Carpi have been unable to push through a permanent move for striker Federico Melchiorri as Leeds United have stalled on a move for Jerry Mbakogu.
Ever since the January transfer window, Leeds have been strongly linked with a move to sign Carpi striker Mbakogu, with talks seemingly being held with a view to a summer deal.
Last month, Gazza Mercato in Italy reported that Leeds had agreed a €3.5million (£3million) deal for Mbakogu, yet more than a month on, no move has been announced.
This week, The Mirror have not only reported that Leeds are closing in on a deal for free agent striker Abel Hernandez, but are also looking to raid Derby County for 21-goal forward Matej Vydra.

That would suggest that Leeds are looking elsewhere rather than heading into a deal for Mbakogu, and now reports in Italy suggest that a move to Elland Road could be on the rocks.
Gazzetta Di Modena report that Leeds are ‘stalling’ on a move for Mbakogu, and the lack of income has resulted in Carpi being unable to sign striker Federico Melchiorri permanently.
The veteran Italian joined Carpi on loan from Cagliari in January, and whilst Carpi want to sign him permanently, they can’t afford to without selling Mbakogu.
With Leeds targeting bigger-name strikers since the appointment of Marcelo Bielsa as their new manager, a deal for Mbakogu may no longer be a priority anymore – and that’s not what Carpi will want to here.
