Tottenhama and Newcastle both made attempts to sign Carles Alena from Barcelona.

AS had reported that Alena was unsure over his future, and Tottenham were leading the chase.
Barcelona’s Carles Alena and Sergi Samper celebrate
Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino made a ‘desperate’ last ditch attempt to lure Alena to Spurs, SPORT claim – even offering him first team football, along with a similar pitch from Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez.
But Alena has decided to commit to Barcelona after helping their B team clinch promotion.
Nou Camp
The talented central midfielder is held in high esteem at the Nou Camp and is hopeful he can make his way into the plans of new manager Ernesto Valderde.
Alena has one year remaining on his current deal and is the Spain under-19 captain.
Barcelona have lost several top young talents to English football over the years and will be relieved that for now they appear to have stopped Carles Alena following suit.
He made three first team appearances as a substitute in La Liga last season under Luis Enrique.
