According to the Daily Mail, Cardiff City have ended their interest in snapping up Celtic winger Jonny Hayes after he suffered a season-ending injury.

The Bhoys beat Dundee 2-0 at Dens Park on Boxing Day, with James Forrest and Leigh Griffiths both finding the net.

However, it wasn’t all good news for Celtic, as winger Jonny Hayes was stretchered off with a serious injury, which has sine been confirmed as a broken leg.

The Irishman will now miss the rest of the season, and fresh reports suggest that his injury may have scuppered a January move away from Glasgow.

The Daily Mail report that Cardiff City – who lost out to Celtic in the race to sign Hayes from Aberdeen over the summer – were hoping to snap the winger up in a £1million January deal.

However, now he seemingly won’t kick a ball again this term, Cardiff are unsurprisingly backing away from a potential January deal and will look elsewhere.

Manager Neil Warnock was desperate to land Hayes over the summer but simply couldn’t pip Celtic to his signature, only for the wide man to find first-team football hard to come by with the Bhoys.

With just six league starts this term, Hayes’ season has been one of frustration – and now, it has been finished prematurely, with Cardiff possibly having to wait until summer to make a new move.
