The Sheffield Wednesday forward has scored twice in four games for the Owls against Cardiff City.
Cardiff City are considering an approach for Sheffield Wednesday’s Fernando Forestieri, according to the Times.
The newspaper claims Cardiff, managed of course by the former Sheffield United manager Neil Warnock, are still looking to strengthen their attack ahead of Thursday’s 5pm deadline.
It adds, however, that Wednesday are likely to want £10 million for Forestieri, despite the transfer embargo in place at Hillsborough.
Forestieri has scored 33 goals in 82 games for the Owls, including two in four against Cardiff.
Without the Argentine – along with several others – for the bulk of last season, Sheffield Wednesday could only finish 15th in the Championship, despite successive play-off finishes before then.
It is possible, however, that the Yorkshire side could look to cash in on their key man as they seek to avoid present and future EFL sanctions, while Forestieri is likely to fancy a crack at the Premier League if offered.
In Dejphon Chansiri’s three-and-a-half-year reign as chairman, Sheffield Wednesday have refused every single bid that has arrived for their stars – Forestieri included – which is arguably the biggest contributing factor towards their current financial predicament.
While Cardiff have little more than 24 hours to conclude a deal, Jos Luhukay’s side could still sign a replacement up to and including August 31st on loan.
