Leeds United are poised to sign Manchester United left back Cameron Borthwick-Jackson.
According to ESPN, Manchester United defender Cameron Borthwick-Jackson has snubbed a move to the Netherlands with Ajax in order to join Leeds United on a season-long loan deal.
Borthwick-Jackson, 20, was born in Manchester and has come up through the ranks with United, having joined the club at the age of just six way back in 2003.
The 6ft 3in defender did break through into the United first team fold during the 2015-16 season, as he made 14 appearances under Louis van Gaal and earned plaudits for how he adjusted to life in the spotlight.
However, Jose Mourinho decided to loan him out to Wolverhampton Wanderers last summer, and he endured a dismal loan spell at Molineux, as he made just seven appearances in all competitions under Walter Zenga and Paul Lambert.
With Mourinho unsurprisingly feeling that Borthwick-Jackson still isn’t ready for first-team football at Old Trafford, and he is now set to join Leeds United on loan – and that’s instead of signing for Ajax.
ESPN report that Borthwick-Jackson was presented with the opportunity of heading to Amsterdam instead, but has chosen Leeds in order to try and play first-team football after such a frustrating season with Wolves last term.
Ajax do have Mitchell Dijks at left back following his return from Norwich City, whilst Daley Sinkgraven can also play at left back, and it’s unclear just how much Borthwick-Jackson would have played had he made the move to the Netherlands.
Instead, Borthwick-Jackson could be confirmed as a Leeds player today, and he will have a real shot at starting after left back Charlie Taylor left Leeds in order to join Burnley this summer.
