Callum Roberts will leave Newcastle United at the end of June when his St James’ Park contract runs out.
Callum Roberts is attracting interest from European clubs ahead of his departure from Newcastle United, according to a report.
The Shield Gazette have claimed that Greek side Panathinaikos are considering making a move for 22-year-old when his contract at Newcastle expires at the end of this month.
It is said that Panathinaikos’ technical director Nikos Dabizas watched Roberts in action during Newcastle’s Premier League 2 play-off final fixture against Southampton last month and could now make a move.
The South-Shields born player would have been hugely disappointed when he was told that his services were no longer required at the club.
Just like his fellow academy product Sean Longstaff, he would have felt that the future was looking very bright earlier on in the season when Rafa Benitez’s handed him his senior debut.
The winger played, and scored, in the Magpies 4-2 FA Cup win against Blackburn Rovers, where he impressed, but things didn’t kick on from there onwards.
Now, he will be looking for a new club as moving abroad could be an option for the player or even staying in England and playing for a lower league side.
Previously, Roberts has played in League Two when he represented Colchester United for a brief period. He also played for Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock.
