According to The Scottish Sun, Heart of Midlothian defender Callum Paterson is still set to sign for Championship side Cardiff City, despite receiving late interest from Rangers.

Paterson, 22, was born in London but moved to Scotland at the age of just three, and after a spell with the Tynecastle Boys Club, he joined Hearts in 2010.

Paterson has been Mr. Versatile during his time at Tynecastle, playing at right back and up front, leaving him him with an impressive record of 38 goals in 162 appearances for Hearts.

In December, Paterson suffered a season-ending knee injury, and that left him in limbo as he couldn’t move on in January, and now has to rely on a club taking a chance on him as a free agent when his Hearts contract expires this summer.

On Sunday, the Daily Record reported that Rangers were keen to land Paterson this summer given his contract situation, but Pedro Caixinha’s men look set to miss out.

The Scottish Sun claim that Paterson is still edging towards signing for Championship side Cardiff City after positive talks with manager Neil Warnock, choosing them ahead of Rangers.

That would leave Caixinha still looking for new signings at Ibrox, and his interest in a right back raises question marks about the futures of James Tavernier and Lee Hodson.

With Aberdeen captain Ryan Jack allegedly set for a move to Ibrox, Caixinha will get one Scottish talent in, but a move to bring Paterson to the club as well looks unlikely to go through this summer as things stand.
