Real Madrid may demand a buyback clause in order for Spurs to land Dani Ceballos.

Spanish newspaper AS have today backed up claims that Tottenham Hotspur want Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos – but a buy-back clause may be required.

El Desmarque reported on Tuesday night that Mauricio Pochettino wants Ceballos at Spurs, even willing to pay up to £44million for him, despite that being more than three times what Real paid two years ago.

Ceballos, 22, was outstanding at Real Betis, and his creative displays in midfield sparked interest in his signature, with Real beating Barcelona to sign him.

However, Ceballos has found first-team football hard to come by at Real, and having barely featured since Zinedine Zidane’s return as manager, he may be on the move.

AS back up the claims that Spurs want Ceballos, and the midfielder wants a deal done before he starts the Under-21 European Championships on June 15th, meaning there’s just over three weeks to sort out a move.

Intriguingly though, it’s stated that Real don’t want to give up Ceballos completely, meaning they’d rather do a loan or even insert a buyback clause into any sale of the misfit playmaker.

Daniel Levy surely won’t like the idea of a buyback clause, as he wouldn’t be able to dictate how much Spurs would receive in the future, leaving Tottenham opening to losing a key player without any negotiation.

Spurs should still pursue a move, but claims of a buyback clause being wanted may be a big problem for Tottenham as they look for midfield reinforcements.
