Bury want to sign the Newcastle United starlet on loan.

According to Bury Times, League One side Bury are keen to sign Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman on loan for next season.

The 20-year-old has seen his stock rise in recent weeks after helping England Under-20s to World Cup glory in South Korea this summer.

Bury are said to be in the market for a new stopper and manager Lee Clark – who played for Newcastle – wants to raid his old club for one, according to The Bury Times.

Woodman certainly seems to have a bright future in football but should Magpies boss Rafael Benitez look to farm him out to a Championship club instead?

The youngster would learn more in a season-long loan in England’s second tier than he would in League One, by virtue of the increased standard.

Benitez should know how tough the Championship is, having just led Newcastle to the league title in it last season, and perhaps the Spaniard would prefer to see his starlet get a solid year of football at that level under his belt before reassessing things next summer.
